Maison Brotte Création Grosset Cairanne Rouge 2022
The Brotte wine family is a distinguished, five-generation winemaking dynasty deeply rooted in the Southern Rhône Valley of France. While the family's viticultural heritage dates back to 1880, the modern history of Maison Brotte officially began in 1931 when Charles Brotte established the company in the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. A pioneer in regional winemaking and marketing, Charles revolutionized the brand in 1952 by creating La Fiole du Pape, an iconic, distinctively twisted bottle designed to evoke the movement of old Grenache vines shaped by the fierce Mistral winds.
Over the decades, successive generations expanded the family’s international footprint and added exceptional properties to their portfolio, which today includes Domaine Barville (their flagship Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate), Domaine Grosset in Cairanne, and Château de Bord in Laudun. Known for their mastery of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre blends, the family balances time-honored traditions with forward-thinking sustainability, achieving Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) and Terra Vitis (sustainable farming) certifications while actively transitioning their historic vineyards toward organic farming.
Tasting notes
Création Grosset falls between two styles: juicy and accessible, and dense and powerful. This friendly Cairanne opens with blackberry, damson plum, raspberry and red currant, followed by black pepper, cinnamon, licorice and dried Mediterranean herbs. The palate is full-bodied and ripe but not excessively heavy, with a juicy center, fine but persistent tannins and enough acidity to keep the dark fruit in balance. Notes of plum skin, warm spice, thyme and earth carry through the finish.

Black cherry, cranberry skin, violet, white pepper, and thyme come together in a concentrated and expressive nose. The rich, powerful palate offers notes of licorice, balanced by fresh acidity, with minerality and stoniness driving through the midpalate. It finishes on a soft, salty strawberry note. This is an easy choice alongside an earthy, juicy burger—think mushroom or bison. - Wine Enthusiast, 91 pts
