Carnasciale Il Caberlot Sommelleria 2019
Il Caberlot is normally only bottled in magnum format. We have a few bottles from a small edition, which were bottled in the 0.75 litre bottle (demi-magnum) with the addition of the name "Sommelleria" especially for restaurants.
Il Caberlot is more than just a wine - it is a unique statement. Since the 1980s, the Rogosky family has been vinifying one of Italy's rarest red wines with great restraint: pure Caberlot, a natural cross between Cabernet Franc and Merlot, exclusively from the tiny, high-altitude Il Carnasciale vineyard near Mercatale Valdarno. The stony, barren soils at an altitude of up to 520 metres and the continental microclimate of central Tuscany shaped the 2021 vintage in an ideal way: a fresh spring, a moderately warm summer and a long, dry autumn led to a late, selective harvest with exceptional aromatic finesse.
Vinification is classic, with spontaneous fermentation, a long maceration period and subsequent ageing for around 22 months in Burgundian pièces - a sensitive use of wood that lends structure without overpowering the terroir. The nose is noble and complex: cassis, laurel, graphite, black tea, pepper and a hint of truffle. The palate is densely woven, with great tension between dark fruit, fine spice and precise acidity. The tannins are silky but present, the finish is long, focused and characterised by cool noblesse.
