Bodega Marqués del Silvo has a rich history deeply intertwined with the development of the Rioja wine region in Spain. The winery is considered one of the pillars of Rioja winemaking, with its origins closely linked to the region's viticultural evolution. Located about 50 kilometers from the historic city of Logroño, Bodega Marqués del Silvo is surrounded by 150 hectares of meticulously managed vineyards along the Ebro River. The estate's vineyards are cultivated at altitudes ranging from 560 to 700 meters above sea level, featuring clayey-calcareous soils that are deep, well-draining, and poor in organic matter, contributing to the wine’s distinctive character.
The Gran Reserva wine from Bodega Marqués del Silvo exemplifies the pinnacle of Rioja DOCA winemaking. Crafted from Tempranillo and Garnacha grapes harvested from bush vines over 70 years old, this wine embodies the essence of sustainable viticulture. The winemaking process begins with controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by clarification and filtration. The wine then undergoes an extensive aging process, spending 30 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels with medium toast, followed by 24 months in the bottle before release.
