Domaine Coudert Moulin-à-Vent 2023
Clos de la Roilette, under the stewardship of the Coudert family, has been producing wines since the 1920s and is celebrated for its high-quality, terroir-driven Beaujolais. The estate’s vineyards in Fleurie, on the edge of Moulin-à-Vent, benefit from ideal sun exposure and old vines, which contribute to the depth and complexity of their wines. With a philosophy rooted in tradition, Clos de la Roilette is known for its expressive, age-worthy Gamay, which captures the essence of Beaujolais while embracing a style often likened to Burgundy.
This 2023 Moulin-à-Vent bottled under Domaine Coudert is Alain Couderts first vintage from his newly acquired estate in Moulin-à-Vent. 100% Gamay, the vinification is identical to that for Roilette Fleurie wines: a traditional, semi-carbonic Beaujolais style. The whole clusters are harvested by hand and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in open-top concrete tank. Maceration lasts around 14 days with a submerged cap rather than punchdowns. Sulfur use is quite minimal. The wine is aged in large, old oak foudres for about 9 months before bottling.
Tasting notes
The 2023 Domaine Coudert Moulin-à-Vent (made by Alain Couderte - owner of Clos de la Roilette) offers a vibrant expression of Beaujolais with aromas of ripe cherry, dark berry, and violets. On the palate, it shows plush red fruit, hints of earth, and a touch of spice, supported by fine tannins and a long, structured finish.
