Domaine A. Berthet-Rayne 'La Huppe Perchee' Cairanne 2022
This estate's history begins with André Berthet-Rayne’s great-grandparents, who, at the end of the 19th century, cultivated 6 hectares of vines. In addition to the vineyards, they also cultivated a few plots of olive groves and farmland.
Paul, André's father, built the winery in 1977, marking a turning point for the estate. The sale of the first bottles quickly followed this construction. Before that, the grapes were taken to the cooperative winery to be vinified.
André officially joined the family estate in 1984 and in the 2000’s began adopting the principles of organic farming on the land. This transition marked a strong commitment to respecting the environment and preserving the local area.
In 2016 Cairanne, a picturesque wine village perched in the Southern Rhône of France, was elevated to Cru ACO status in the Côtes du Rhône. This was a well-deserved recognition for the winemakers who have been working for decades to preserve and promote this exceptional terroir. Celebrated for its Grenache-heavy blends, Cairanne wine embodies ripe fruits, herbal spices, and a smooth, elegant texture nurtured under the Mediterranean sun and flavored by the aromatic garrigue.
In 2017, the next generations joined the estate - daughter of André and Marina, Alexandra, followed by her husband, Axel in 2019.
All of the Syrah and 50% of the Grenache is destemmed before fermentation in a concrete tank. Pump overs occur during fermentation, followed by 15 days of maceration. The wine is then aged until March in concrete. Less than 30 grams of sulfur is added at bottling for stability.
