Eleni & Édouard Vocoret 'Bas de Chapelot' Chablis 2023
Édouard and Eleni first met during the 2010 harvest in New Zealand. Not long after, they married and returned to Chablis to take over a small piece of Edouard's family domaine (Domaine Vocoret & Fils) and establish their own project in 2013. With just 3.3 hectares to start, their vision was clear: a more artisanal, sustainable approach, focused on farming. Making single-site wines that highlight the individuality of each plot through the same thoughtful, minimalist winemaking. Their small holdings allowed them to know every vine by heart, and together they brought a passion and energy that marked a new generation in Chablis.
In 2023, Édouard inherited an additional 5 hectares of impressive real estate —including Butteaux and new 1er crus Forêts, Séchet, Châtaigne, and Montée de Tonnerre, along with the Grands Crus Blanchots, Valmur, and Les Clos—bringing the domaine to roughly 10 hectares. This expansion gives them the chance to deepen their terroir-driven approach while entrusting some village parcels to younger growers. With a solid foundation and an exciting future ahead, Édouard and Eleni continue to carve their own distinct path in Chablis.

...This has pretty much been the Vocoret signature wine to this point and it's easy to understand why as the quality is again excellent, and particularly so for a villages-level wine. A slightly riper if otherwise quite similar array features the same notes of Granny Smith apple and citrus is laced with hints of quinine and tidal pool. There is a rounder mouthfeel to the delicious and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess solid power and even better depth on the balanced and beautifully persistent finish. This is excellent and a wine that should be approachable young while capable of repaying 6 to 8 years of cellaring. Warmly recommended.*Burghound Outstanding Top Value! - Burghound, 90-92 pts
Slightly tauter than En Boucheran but not as chiseled as Les Pargues, Eleni & Edouard Vocoret’s 2023 Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot is chareterized by clay-rich and limestone soils, as it’s located close to the river. Wafting from the glass with a bouquet of beeswax, grapefruit zest and oyster shell, it’s medium to full-bodied, tensile and saline, with a racy spine of acidity and concluding with a persistent finish. Eleni and Edouard Vocoret are among the brightest young-generation winemakers in Chablis, bringing a fresh breeze to a subregion of Burgundy that has, until recently, lacked dynamism. Originally from Domaine Vocoret & Fils, Edouard Vocoret established his own winery in Chablis in 2012, together with his wife Eleni, after working for two years at his family estate, while Eleni honed her skills at Vincent Dauvissat and Domaine Oudin. Starting with five hectares, they now run an eight-hectare estate, which includes many prime parcels at both premier cru and grand cru levels. With the 2023 vintage, the domaine’s holdings have expanded, and almost overnight, this estate has become one of Chablis’s most important addresses. The Vocorets have selected parcels in the best climats from their family holdings, and the accompanying tasting notes illustrate the entire range, which now consists of 12 different cuvées. - Wine Advocate, 90-92 pts
Bas de Chapelot comes from a 3.2 hectare parcel just below Montée de Tonnerre. It is the Vocoret's only parcel on the right side of the river bank. The soil is deep, clay and limestone, and Kimmeridgian (moyen). The vines are now 40 years old vines and due to their proximity to the riverbed are very exposed to frost.
Vocoret works organically but for the moment, not certified. Eleni and Édouard do everything themselves by hand and know their plots by heart. They started applying biodynamic principles and planting fruit trees to increase the biodiversity.
