Devison Beneath the Stones Syrah 2023
Tasting notes
A rich, youthful purple color invites you to a glass filled with sappy blackberry, ripe plum (hoisin), tamarind, black tea, and dark olive tapenade. With time, notes of pepper, brown stems, and briquette-crusted grilled meat emerge. Distinct nuances of licorice twig, star anise, tobacco, tarry herbs, and purple flower add further complexity. Almost stubborn at first, the palate is unapologetic in its firm stem tannin and ageability. This vintage channels more Northern Rhône character than any other we’ve produced. With time and air, the vineyard’s true class shines through, showcasing flavors of fresh blackberries, air-cured black olives, and blood orange carried by structured opulence. The finish is youthful now but will lengthen and gain complexity with bottle age. Optimum drinking window: 2026–2030.

Both Peter and Kelsey have spent most of their entire adult careers in the wine industry (37 combined years). From dusting shelves, sales, marketing, imports, viticulture and winemaking they have touched most every side of the industry. Peter has been a head winemaker in Washington state for the past 15 years and Kelsey has spent her time on the sales, marketing and import side. Devison Vintners brings to life a combined vision of the two and opens up a creative outlet to make the wines they love. Small lot native wines with complexity, depth and character that showcase the typicity of Washington’s best vineyards.
