Domaine Josmeyer 'Le Fromenteau' Pinot Gris 2017
Cushioned between the rolling vineyards of Wintzenheim in Alsace, Domaine Josmeyer has been making wines for five generations dating back to 1854. The 25-hectare estate is spread across 90 plots, with parcels in the famous Grand Cru sites of Hengst (marno-limestone soil) and Brand (granite soil) - recognized for their exceptional wine production for centuries. Today sisters Céline and Isabelle run the Domaine and have been practicing biodynamics since 2000 and certified since 2024.
Production notes
The harvest is 100% manual. The grapes are pressed whole for about 6 hours in pneumatic presses. The settling is natural. Fermentation starts spontaneously with the yeasts in the middle in hundred-year-old casks. It is followed by aging on fine lees for several months until bottling, which usually takes place at the approach of summer or in autumn. Before bottling, the wine is filtered.

A hint of dried pear is slight but pure on the nose of this wine. The palate comes in with spirited dryness, freshness, linear concentration and elegance. On the finish, a richer, almost buttery note rounds things out. This classy wine should be long-lived. Drink by 2030. - Wine Enthusiast, 93 pts
