Conte Vistarino 'Costa del Nero' Pinot Nero 2023

Nestled in the rolling hills of Lombardy, Conte Vistarino is a historic winery celebrated for pioneering Pinot Noir in Italy. In 1850, Count Augusto Giorgi di Vistarino was the first person to plant Pinot Noir in the Oltrepò, by importing the shoots directly from France and thus giving rise to the great sparkling wine tradition of the Oltrepò Pavese. The current generation, represented by Ottavia Giorgi di Vistarino (who we were fortunate enough to meet on her recent visit to Tacoma), is carrying on Augusto’s vision and his love for the territory, preserving the environment and biodiversity, while always aiming for excellence.

The estate extends for 826 hectares, of which only 102 are vineyards, almost completely covering the municipality of Rocca de’ Giorgi. At Rocca De Giorgi biodiversity is intrinsic to the very conformation of the land, which is hilly, around 250-300 meters above sea level, a third of which is covered in woodlands and rich wildlife areas. The vineyards are farmed respectfully and sustainable, with a focus zero use of chemical fertilizers and reduced tillage.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Costa del Nero is deep ruby red in color. The nose is intense, nicely broad, with typical scents of red fruits. The palate is

elegant, soft and balanced with a pleasant mineral finish. Tannins and acidity proceed in harmony offering a harmonious wine albeit with a resolute character. Slight hint of wood to crown its complexity.
