Le Roc Des Anges Astérolide 2022
Winemaker Marjorie Gallet produces expressive, individual organic wines at Le Roc des Anges, a 22 hectare domaine in the village of Montner in the Pyrénées-Orientales départment. Roc des Anges is not the kind of domaine you expect to find in the Roussillon. Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet, both transplants from other parts of France (Côte Rotie and Normandy, respectively), have constructed a biodynamic wine sanctuary in the Vallée de l’Agly, a nearly deserted vineyard land dominated by co-ops and famous for producing fortified wines. The locals continue to abandon vines every year because the yields are tragically low and make it one of the most difficult places in France to make a living in vineyards.
Carignan 1903 - It is their "root" wine, where it all began. Its vigorousness leads the way. Its strong character requires patience. In fine, carignan grown on these schist soils delivers a silky, intense wine. This wine is sourced from a 3.5 hectare site planted in 1903. On the lean well-drained soils of Roc des Anges Carignan finds a tailor-made terroir which allows the wine to express its full-bodied, fruit spice fleshiness and chiselled minerality.
To fully appreciate the aromatic bouquet of this wine decant at least an hour before drinking.
