Newsprint Columbia Valley Red Blend 2022
A cop and a reporter meet, fall in love and start a winery…When Jerry met Jennifer he was known around the Woodinville wine scene as the chemist, turned cop, who was almost always around to help with wine work. Jerry had been volunteering 40-plus hours a week at several wineries, including Mark Ryan Winery and Matthews Cellars, assisting friends with harvest or in the tasting room. Jerry and Jennifer opened the Guardian tasting room in November 2007.
Long live the free press and long live the single varietal wine. Here’s the scoop: Guardian’s second label, Newsprint, was created in 2013 to give a little love to Washington’s finest single varietals and a lot of love to Jennifer, a longtime journalist and the other half of Guardian Cellars.
So yes, when the Newsprint line was created, it was focused on just making straight varietals…But Guardian Cellars loves blends and this IS Washington! How could they not make a delicious red blend? This tasty blend is comprised of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 17% Syrah, and 6% Petit Verdot.
For the 2019 vintage, the grapes were hand-harvested then destemmed into 1.5-ton fermenters. They were punched down, by hand, twice daily until pressing off to barrel. The wines finished malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine components were blended after one year then aged another six months in barrel. Red Blend was lightly filtered prior to bottling. This wine spent six months aging in bottle prior to release.
The 2019 Red Blend features notes of black cherry, plum, and cherry cola. This rich, savor, and full wine won't disappoint. This fun wine is perfect for any occasion.
