Delmas Walla Walla Valley Syrah 2020
The Delmas range of wines showcase the distinctive terroir and contemplative character that is SJR Vineyard: signature floral aromatics leading to a relaxed precision, that many would define as elegance and finesse, on the palate… savory flavor notes and complexity that develops additional tertiary qualities over the years… the essence of PLACE. The overall effect is sensual rather than hedonistic… with lingering pleasure, generosity and grace.
Reference point wines of the world all express distinctive character by “embracing the edges”... of geology and soils, of geography, of climate, of farming and winemaking practices; reinforcing vineyard health/vitality and, ultimately, vine age.
Other notes
Deep purple-red hue with a captivating bouquet of violets, licorice, blackberry, huckleberry, five-spice powder, bacon fat, smoldering incense, and dark chocolate. Beautifully precise on the palate with notes of black plum, blackberry, truffles, nutmeg, allspice, white pepper, and stony minerality. Subtle hints of bittersweet chocolate, grilled thyme, and vanilla are also present. On the exquisite finish the wine has an umami character, full of salinity and stony minerality. Elegance, harmony, and finesse, this wine has it all! As many of the Delmas predecessors, this wine will appeal to the intellect as well as the palate. It will be difficult to cellar, but patience will be rewarded; this wine should reach a lovely phase of maturity in 7-9 years and will hold for approximately 15+ years.
