Holocene Pyxis Chardonnay 2023

From the winery: During assemblage, I put these two wines together by sampling each vessel to see what worked best. Ultimately, when the two amphorae lots from the two different sites were combined, they meshed very well together – one sandstone amphora that is very reductive, one terracotta amphora that is much more oxidative than the sandstone. This wine is called PYXIS, which means a “small terracotta vase”. This is a very different type of Chardonnay compared to the others we made. Very fresh, no oak, unwound and ready to drink, it’s a delicious, clean and pure expression of Chardonnay through the lens of terracotta and sandstone – combining 2 vineyards of the Columbia Gorge and Eola-Amity Hills.
