J.L Chave 'Mon Coeur' Côtes-du-Rhône 2022
Hermitage is hallowed ground, and the Chave family is one of its most important caretakers. 'Farconnet' is named after the nobleman who originally gifted the Chave family with their first vineyards in the Rhone Valley. The beauty of Farconnet is that it offers the full Hermitage experience and is backed up by 25 generations of Chave family expertise, at a fraction of the typical Hermitage price tag. And that's really what it comes down to: 540 years of history behind each of these bottles represents undeniable value.
Tasting notes
In classic Chave style this starts out with all of the cracked pepper, lavender and gamey notes Syrah in a perfect spot can give you. Then you find the lightness that sets Chave apart from the pack. Not that the weight is missing, it's just a delicate almost pinot like texture that only a master of their craft can execute. A wonderful wine that can easily gain complexity with a decade or so in the cellar.

Inky violet color. Displays ripe dark fruit, licorice, olive, potpourri and cracked pepper aromas, plus a smoky mineral flourish that adds an energetic lift. Sappy and broad on the palate, offering appealingly sweet black and blue fruit, cola, licorice and exotic spice flavors that show impressive depth and vivacity. Finishes very long and precise, with a lingering floral quality and dusty, slowly building tannins. - Vinous, 94 pts
