Sparkman Kindred Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Kelly & Chris Sparkman launched Sparkman Cellars in Woodinville, Washington in 2004. In Year One they had a baby girl, made 12 barrels of wine (289 cases) and 3 labels in a tiny warehouse. In Year Three they had another baby girl, opened their first tasting room, made 1425 cases of wine and 8 labels. They have now grown their annual production to over 12,000 cases in a shiny new winery, tasting room and event hall at the old Redhook Brewery in Woodinville.
Sparkman’s Kindred label was first produced in 2008 in response to the global implosion of Merlot following Sideways. They put beautiful Merlot and some other Bordeaux varietals together in a bottle and sold it for $20 so they could stay afloat. Years later, in 2012, they brought it back, driven by Malbec and framed with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, in an effort to help better define the Bordeaux and Rhône sides of their portfolio. The current label, launched for the 2015 vintage features an image of a 275 year-old oak tree in McMinnville, Tennessee, where Chris's Dad was born.
