Champagne André Clouet N° 3 Brut Rosé NV
The Clouet family first found the spotlight as the official printer to Louis XV’s Royal Court in Versailles in the 18th century (hence the beauty of their wine labels). The family’s estate located in the village of Bouzy is comprised of 20-acres of Grand Cru vineyards both in Bouzy and in the Village of Ambonnay which the current owner, Jean-François Clouet, still calls home today. A bit of a showman, Jean-François, takes great pride in his family lineage living in the house his ancestors first built in 1741. Beneath this historic site, lies their labyrinthine chalk cellar which still contains partial false walls that hid precious bottles during the Nazi invasion in World War II. With all this historic grandeur surrounding him, Jean-François respectfully draws from tradition and time-honored techniques while embracing modern technology. And with only 20-acres of estate vines, he can make this philosophy a reality. Committed to making Pinot Noir focused wines with as little dosage as possible to craft pure, dry, and clean wines, Jean-François offers an expansive, historically-reflective expression of the appellation.
Tasting notes
André Clouet’s 'No 3' Brut Rosé is 100% Pinot Noir and the ‘3’ represents the style of the wine measured on a scale from 1-10 with 1 being the lightest and 10 being the richest. This wine is the furthest thing from a lean Champagne. Instead, its rich, yeasty texture thrives and takes center stage. It shows a pale salmon core with a clear rim. Its bead (or bubble) is tiny, compact, and travels upwards with vigor before fanning out to the edge of the glass. It erupts with seductive notes of wild strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate, cherry blossoms, fresh red and pink flowers, crushed chalk, and orange zest. The near full-bodied, dry palate coats your mouth with supple fruit that trends toward the side of creamy: you can expect strawberry coulis, white peach, ripe Rainier cherries, and a persisting mineral-driven presence.

The NV Brut Rosé No 3 Grand Cru is a pure Bouzy Pinot Noir that gets its beautiful intense onion-skin color from the addition of 8% red wine. The nose is rich and complex but at the same time pure and refined, with a nice chalky layer and vinous fruit intensity. Round and rich but fresh and vital on the pure and elegant palate, this is a full-bodied, pretty intense and persistent rosé to be served with main courses. This rosé is seriously complex and expressive, with grip, tension and a long finish. Remarkable in class and style. - Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 93 pts
A frank, generous and juicy but properly dry rosé champagne that has plenty of pinot noir red-berry character. Enough substance to easily handle the dining table. Long and bright, berry and citrus finish. 100% pinot noir, of which 8% was red wine. Drink now. - James Suckling, 93 pts
