Teleda 'Dila-O' Rkatsiteli-Mtsvane Dry Amber Wine 2022
What's in a name? Teleda is an ancient name of Telavi, the main city of the Kakheti region. The first archaeological findings about Telavi date back to the Bronze Age. One of the earliest surviving accounts of Telavi is from the 2nd century AD, by Greek geographer Claudius Ptolemaeus, who mentions the name Teleda (a reference to Telavi). Orgo is the stone that was used as a closure of Qvevri in ancient times in Georgia, and that old tradition is still used in the cellar for some Qvevris today.
Orgo/Teleda, located in the Kakheti AOC in eastern Georgia, is a project between the famous Georgian winemaker Gogi Dikishivili and his son, Temur Dakishvili. Temur’s youth and energy coupled with Gogi’s experience and wisdom create a unique partnership, one that both honors the centuries old Dakishvili family winemaking tradition, yet makes it new again each year. The mission of Orgo/Teleda is to make singularly unique wines that add their own elegance and refinement to the 8,000 year old Georgian wine making tradition.
Orgo/Teleda has 10 hectares of vineyards and produce wine from only indigenous varieties. White varietals: Rkatsitely, Mtsvane, Qisi and Tsolikouri. Red variety – Saperavi. The vineyards are located in neighboring villages Kondoli and Kurdgelauri (15 km from Teleda Orgo). The youngest plantings are 50 years old, but they were not always owned by the Dakishvili family. 50+ years ago it was impossible to own something private in Georgia. Because of Soviet Union reign (1921 -1991) everything was public and people did not own any private land. Only after land Privatization (a process started in1992) was it possible to buy land and start your own agricultural work. The Dakishvili family is practicing sustainable - caring for nature, environmentally friendly, producing healthy wines with a minimum amount of sulfur.
A bouquet of melon and cantaloupe aromas thanks to the Mtsvane, good acidity thanks to Rkatsiteli and lighter softer tannin on the finish due to less time on the skins. Delicious to explore with food.
