Lavinea Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir 2021
Lavinea, Latin for “of the vine or of the vineyard,” is a small producer of single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from mature vineyards in the Willamette Valley, Found by partners Greg Ralson and winemaker Isabell Meunier, the debut vintage was 2014 and since then the wines have received high praise from the wine press.
Meunier is a Quebec native who received her training at the Dijon University of Agriculture and in New Zealand at Lincoln University. Prior to starting Lavinea, she was the winemaker for Evening Land Vineyards, working closely with noted Burgundian vintner Dominique Lafon.
Tasting notes
Pale ruby with a bit of blue. Blue Raspberry Jolly Rancher and cherry yogurt. Bright and fresh and vibrant. Just a touch of vanilla. Textural and glycerol. A slight bit of charcuterie rind. Linear acid. Medium, soft tannin.
Production notes
This wine highlights the complex diversity that is the Eola-Amity Hills and delivers on the character of the 2021 vintage. The year began with an epic ice storm in the winter, followed by rain at flowering, then a record-setting heat event. After that, we experienced a relatively dry growing season with a few heat events in August, followed by welcome rains and a cooling period in September and October. Typical of the vintage the wine is rich with generous fruit that remains fresh from practiced restraint in the cellar.

Brooding yet expressive, with raspberry and blueberry flavors highlighted by forest floor and dusky spices as this builds richness and tension toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2032. - Tim Fish, Wine Spectator, 93 pts.
