Champagne Nominé-Renard Blanc de Blancs Brut NV
Germaine Renard and her husband, André Nominé built their winery in 1960 and christened it ‘Champagne Nominé-Renard’. Germaine and André had four children. Claude , the elder, joined the family business after studying oenology. He has worked at Nominé-Renard, with his wife Catherine, since 1973 and has been chief viticulturist and winemaker for 35 years. Claude, with his son Simon, meticulously look after the vine until the grape has reached its best. During harvest, the fruit is selected, hand-picked and directly pressed in their Cellar in Villevenard. Being Independent Growers (Récoltant-Manipulant) means managing the production from the land to the bottle, this is the guaranty of a unique wine, with a sense of place and dedicated people behind the product.
There is a true historical and family link behind the Nominé-Renard logo. It comes from a sculpture representing a young woman harvesting. Marius Giot, a famous regional artist and cousin of the family, created this sculpture in 1968. The model who inspired him for this sculpture is Reine-Marie Nominé, Claude’s sister, at the age of 15 years old.
Growing vines is working with the environment, all year around. They feel naturally dedicated to sustainable agriculture, which requires special attention to their land, to preserve its biodiversity and the quality of soils. The families 3rd generation winegrowers have learned about the diversity of soils and climates of each plot, day after day, from the family elders. They tend to 3 grape varieties (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier) planted across 6 different villages, spread in 36 plots!
