Domaine Gérard Tremblay Chablis 2023

Located in the village of Chablis within the Burgundy region of France, Domaine Gérard Tremblay is a family estate who has been practicing viticulture for five generations. Under the modern guidance of Gérard and Hélène Tremblay, the estate expanded significantly from its humble 30-acre origins into a premier 37-hectare (approximately 91-acre) estate. Today, leadership and winemaking duties have transitioned to the next generation, led by their children Vincent and Eléonore Tremblay. The estate spans across all four of the region's recognized appellations—Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru (including prestigious vineyards like Beauroy, Fourchaume, Montmains and Côte de Léchet), and a small, highly prized parcel of Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir.

The winemaking philosophy at the domaine centers strictly around a minimalist, terroir-driven approach that highlights the region's famous Kimmeridgian limestone and fossilized shell subsoil. The family utilizes latte raisonnée (sustainable, integrated farming) and careful plowing to preserve the environmental integrity of the land. In the cellar, which was updated in 1990 with a modern facility designed to utilize gravity throughout the process, the grapes are pressed slowly and carefully to avoid extracting harsh, bitter tannins. Fermentation largely takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats to retain a clean, steely, and vibrant mineral profile. While wood aging is selectively applied to portions of their Premier Cru and Grand Cru cuvées, oak is used sparingly to enhance texture and reveal secondary aromas rather than dominate the signature freshness of the Chardonnay fruit.

Tasting notes

The nose is bright and fresh with upfront lemon zest, green apple, and crisp white peach, framed by distinct chalk dust and marine notes. The palate is medium-bodied and highly refreshing, demonstrating a beautiful interplay of steely tension and slight salinity. The wine finishes with a sharp, vibrant acid bite and a lingering, chalky finish.
