Domaine A. Berthet-Rayne 'La Huppe Perchee' Cairanne Blanc 2024
This estate's history begins with André Berthet-Rayne’s great-grandparents, who, at the end of the 19th century, cultivated 6 hectares of vines. In addition to the vineyards, they also cultivated a few plots of olive groves and farmland.
Paul, André's father, built the winery in 1977, marking a turning point for the estate. The sale of the first bottles quickly followed this construction. Before that, the grapes were sold to a cooperative winery to be vinified.
André officially joined the family estate in 1984 and in the early 2000’s began adopting the principles of organic farming. This transition marked a strong commitment to respecting the environment and preserving the land.
Cairanne, a picturesque wine village perched in the Southern Rhône of France, was elevated to Cru AOC status in the Côtes du Rhône in 2016. This was a well-deserved recognition for the winemakers who have been working for decades to preserve and promote this exceptional terroir. Celebrated for its Grenache-heavy blends, Cairanne wine embodies ripe fruits, herbal spices, and a smooth, elegant texture nurtured under the Mediterranean sun and flavored by the aromatic garrigue.
Then in 2017, the next generation joined the estate - daughter of André and Marina, Alexandra, followed by her husband, Axel in 2019.
This 2024 Cairanne is a blend of 40% Roussanne, 40% Grenache Blanc, 10% Marsanne and 10% Viognier bottled without added sulfur. It’s zesty, and then delightful ripe stone fruit builds from the middle palate into a long, complex and fresh finish. This wonderful wine combines freshness, body and complexity. It is best enjoyed with white fish, vegetarian dishes, chicken breast and medium-ripe, soft cheeses.
