Fontanavecchia is a premier, family-run winery located in Torrecuso on the slopes of Mount Taburno in Italy's Campania region. Managed by the Rillo family, whose viticultural roots in the Sannio hills date back to the 19th century, the 18-hectare estate combines deep-seated tradition with modern winemaking precision. The winery is globally recognized for transforming regional native grapes into world-class bottles, specifically serving as a benchmark producer for crisp, age-worthy Falanghina del Sannio white wines and robust, complex Aglianico del Taburno red wines rooted in unique volcanic and clay-limestone soils.
The vines are rooted in clay-limestone soils at varying altitudes, contributing both ripeness and tension to the wine. Fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve purity, this Falanghina is strikingly aromatic, offering notes of green apple, ripe pear, lemon zest, white peach, and citrus blossoms, all framed by subtle hints of chamomile and crushed stone. On the palate, it delivers a balance of juicy fruit and zesty acidity, with a slight salinity from to the region’s ancient marine deposits and contributes to a lingering, mouthwatering finish. Light to medium in body with a clean, polished texture, it is both refreshing and structured. It is an excellent companion to raw shellfish, fried anchovies, pasta alle vongole, or grilled vegetables.
